…PINBALL WIZARD!

‘The Who’s Tommy’, a rock-musical based on The Who’s album of the same name, will play at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre this August. Pete Townshend wrote the music and lyrics for the original album, the songs of which feature in the show.

‘Tommy’, won five Tony Awards for its original 1993 Broadway season. Victorian Opera’s upcoming production is the first time the show has been staged professionally in Australia.

“Legendary British band The Who extended the possibilities of rock ‘n’ roll to new horizons in the 1960s and 70s,” a representative for Victorian Opera said in a statement.

“Get ready to rock on with The Who’s Tommy as it takes over Melbourne’s rock ‘n’ roll stomping ground with raw energy and music that has the power to shake your soul.”

The show is slated to run at The Palais in Melbourne from 14-22 August, 2020.

RAGTIME makes its much anticipated Australian Premiere this November at Arts Centre Melbourne for 11 performances only.

… at the dawning of a new century everything is changing - and anything is possible. Set in the melting pot of 1906 New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together…

Based upon E.L Doctorow’s classic novel, RAGTIME was the winner of the 1998 Tony Awards for Best Score, Book and Orchestrations, and both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical and Best Score, Ragtime is filled with pageantry, emotion and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other musical.

The musical draws upon many the musical styles of it’s namesake: the ragtime rhythms of Harlem and Tin Pan Alley, the klezmer of the Lower East Side, brass band marches and delicate waltzes, from up-tempo banjo tunes and expansive anthems. A truly unique and powerful portrait of America, RAGTIME is sure to inspire.
